Sports and Recreation in Maryland
Maryland offers many recreations areas for outdoor activities. If backpacking is something you enjoy there is the 185 mile Chesapeake and Ohio Canal trail. How about canoeing or camping at the state parks. Maryland's is great for cycling with many two lane roads, the hilly terrain in Western Maryland, or the farmland and streams on the Eastern Shore and Southern area. For the hikers there is the Appalachian Trail that runs through Maryland.
Most of the state parks offer fishing but with the many lakes, ponds, rivers and streams it's a fishing enthusiast dream. The Choptank River Fishing Pier in Cambridge on the Eastern Shore offers two public piers.
There are so many sports to choose from, golfing, boating and sailing and swimming sports. Since Maryland has mild winters most of the cold weather sports and recreation takes place on the western part of the state. Maryland's only downhill ski area is Wisp just north of Deep Creek Lake.
